The history of our choir dates back to the history of the parish when it started as an out station. We thank God for His abundant provision that has helped this apostolic group make leaps to what is now a resounding choir.
Our key success factors
- Presence of systems and structures
The choir has developed a constitution has guides its operations. For example the constitution requires that the choir is led by an executive office which is democratically elected and serves for a specified period of time. The constitution also gives direction to the group with regard to handling people issues i.e. discipline and welfare which if left unattended would either scuttle or derail the choir.
- Dedicated members
The group, now standing at about 60 members is proud of the dedication that each individual displays. For example, each Sunday, in preparation for mass at 10am, the choir meets at 9:am and each members has only 15 mins after which, one is not allowed to join the choir for he or she considered to be late. Surprisingly, hardly will you find members being late.
Similarly, the members sacrifice a lot of their time and financial resources to meet the requirements. This dedication had helped to choir grow, year after year, and is now proudly in the top 20 choirs in the country.
- Support from the church
The choir enjoys the goodwill of its parish executive, parish council, and entire the entire parish congregation. This is demonstrated by the support extended to the choir by way of moral support, financial and everyday feedback
- Friends of the Choir
In 2017, the group initiated a support group called FRIENDS OF THE CHOIR. Currently, this group has about 20 members who either volunteered themselves of were requested by the choir. Drawn from different background these members assist the choir with immediate feedback especially on the areas of improvements and walk with the choir on routine basis. For example, at the beginning of the year, the choir shares its calendar of activities with these friends who go through and know where each member can lend a helping hand. In this year activities, the friends a pivotal role in assisting the choir have a pilgrimage to Namugongo, Uganda.
Activities of the choir
- Serving in mass
This is the primary role of the choir. In our parish, the choir mainly animates the second mass although time and again, the choir gives a helping hand during first mass.
- Taking part in work of Mercy
Every year, and especially during lent period, the choir purposes to go out and render a service to the less fortunate in the society. This is in fulfilment of the three requirements of any Catholic faithful during lent i.e fasting, praying and giving alms. In the recent years, the choir has participated in the following activities
- Visit to St. Teresa Home, Langata https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6wuxr_5JcFJSjJNcFZyQWpXcWc/view?usp=sharing
- Visit to Langata Women Prison
- Visit to Texas Cancer Centre
- Participating in festivals
The choir has for many years taken a keen interest in participating in festivals. Currently participating in the diamond class, the choir prides itself for being among the best 20 choirs in the county.
Participating in the festivals has immensely contributed in building the technical ability of the group.
